How Do We Rate Gold Dealers?
We use the following criteria to assess, then rate gold dealers. While there are many different places selling gold these days, we have tried to select the major dealers in the precious metal trading industry.
Dealers are assessed based on the following criteria: Years in Operation: When buying gold from a dealer, you want to make sure that you are dealing with a reputable company. We have found that, by and large, the dealers with an established history of doing business are more likely to treat their customers right. Premiums Over Spot: We understand that any dealer must charge a premium over the spot price of gold. It is simply part of the precious metals industry, and how these companies make a profit so they can keep their lights turned on and conduct business. But as demand for gold has skyrocketed, we have seen quite a few dealers jack-up their premiums to exorbitant levels. Gold Selection: The selection of gold products each dealer offers is also taken into consideration. There are a number of different gold products on the market today, from modern day gold bullion coins minted in an assortment of different sizes, to gold bars, to older numismatic gold coins of varying weights and grades. In addition, the availability and quantities of each are also help in determining the selection criteria. Sales Staff: Where you buy gold from is just as important as why you buy gold. In our experience, we have found that the sales staff of a company is largely reflective of that company itself. While some companies may have a sales manager relentlessly pressuring the staff to reach a certain quota, or push a particular gold product, others may be less pressure filled, and more helpful and even sometimes educational. Shipping Times: As the demand for precious metals has increased, sadly, so have shipping times for some products. Some of the problems lie directly with the government mints who actually produce the products, however some companies are better than others in their shipping times and practices, as well as in their communication with customers concerning any potential delays. Some companies offer free shipping and insurance, while others try to make a few extra bucks by charging fees. Rating A Gold Dealer is not as easy as it may seem, especially in light of the increasing numbers of gold dealers that have popped up left and right as | Northwest Territorial Mint
